Imagine Buckingham Palace meets Las Vegas. Then add more colour, more pattern and more things. Still not enough? Congratulations, you’re a maximalist.
More is more when it comes to maximalism, and this resurgence for one of the design world’s loudest and most full-on trends comes as a relief for all of us that have been dying to dust off our chintz, rehouse our glass animals and slap on some deliciously lurid bedrooms colours.
Stop making excuses for your overabundance of stuff, mismatched crockery and extrovert design sensibilities. You’re not a hoarder, you’re bang-on trend.
Just like the Victorians, we want to showcase the goods we love as the curators of our own homes. A visual cacophony might not be to everyone’s taste, but maximalism allows personalisation in a way that other trends simply can’t, and we love it for this.
So raid the loft, pull those boxes out from under the bed and rediscover those long-lost pieces bought at the market and car boot sales. Maximalism is back!
